D7000

Hi, this is my first post so here goes. I have just taken delivery of a new D7000. I went on to you tube for some suggested settings and somehow when I review a picture I have taken, it flashes the over exposed areas and RGB keeps flashing. Does anyone know how I turn this off?

Steve,

It sounds like it's possible that the previous owner of the D7000 had the image preview screen restricted to just the highlights view, if the up/down selector is not cycling you through other display modes. My suggestion would be to find in the manual how to do a factory reset, to clear out any customized settings and return the unit to defaults. There may be other settings that have been altered in ways you don't prefer ... some possibly affecting the image itself as well.

Turn on your camera.
Press "Menu"
Scroll up/down and highlight the "Playback Menu".
Scroll down to "Playback display options" and scroll right one click.
Scroll down and clear the "RGB histogram" check-box if you don't want to see RGB Histograms.

I suggest checking "ON" the options for "None (image only)" and for "Overview" (you may need to scroll down a click for the "Overview" option, it hides on the second page all by itself). Those screens will give you the most pertinent information when reviewing your shots.

Both are in the Playback menu, Display option. D7000 manual page 197.

Highlights item there is the blinking on overexposed areas.

RGB histograms, you surely want. The single gray histogram is 100% useless, not real data, instead just a math abstraction, and it does not show most clipping.
