I think you made the right choice.The 18-105mm kit lens you're getting with the camera covers your wide angle shooting, and covers the 50mm range too. Don't worry that it's not an f/1.4 or 2.8, because the D7k is good enough in low light, that the fast lens isn't that critical. My 70-300mm is f/4-5.6 and does extremely well in very low light and high ISO, with no flash. The camera has you covered.
