im not a spammer im a neewbie and i bought the lens brand new in best buy maybe its time to refund my money back and buy the G series instead, thanks for the help.

Ok well...firstly, Best Buy doesn't sell this model. (Yes, I actually took time out of my schedule to check on the website and I didn't see it.) Secondly, I don't think this model is sold brand new, at least that I'm aware of.. Thirdly, please only post once. If you don't appreciate the time that we take to try and answer your question (however vaguely stated), then it's time to consult the person or persons that sold you the lens in the first place. Fourthly, why not go to a reputable camera shop and support local business instead of going to a big box retail store? BB only hurts the photographic industry IMO..
I hate to be the guy to lash out, but it's rather annoying to see someone with such poor forum etiquette. If we are to help, you must give us information that we can use to determine the best possible course of action to resolve your issue. Just some food for thought.

I think you are on the right track now. Deciding to take it back and get something that you can actually use. I am sure you will appreciate the G version and have a much better experience. It looks like the G is not too much more than the D version was. I am sure Best Buy will allow you to return it without a problem. Here's the link so you can see the current price at Best Buy. I think that is what Amazon is currently offering it for also.

I'm going to try to give a crack at this.
my main lens is a 50MM f1.8
anyhow when I first played with this lens I had the exact problem. it was because I never used a DSLR before, nor that lens.
this is how I fixed my lens.
- look at your lens where all the F stops are listed. there is a slide that has a red dot on it, and beside it is a red line.
- - now look at your "22" and make sure the white dot is above it.
- -- if it is not then you will need to take the slide and move it up (where it is not aligned with the red line).
- - -then twist the lens part with the F stop numbers and get it to where the white dot is above the "22"
- - - then go to your red dot and slide it down, where the red dot and red line is connected.
- then you will be able to use the thumb dial in the front and turn it. when you are looking through the "eye" you will see green numbers changing the F stop.
- also make sure you are in "M" or "A" mode. F stop I believe cannot be used in any other mode.
I have faith this will fix your problem. let us know if it does or not.
side note: if you ever want to go manual with this stuff.....I would wait for a good while and just get used to it being used in automatic F stop.

Is it likely you set the D7000 to take the reading from the aperture ring rather then setting it by the body?
What you describe sounds like this - lens at 5.6 - stuck at 5.6 - lens at 22 - stuck at 22
Check the f6 settings - they should say that the wheels control aperture, not the lens ring
