Are you trying to adjust the actual f-stops on the lens? In that case, make sure the lens is locked at it's smallest aperture (22 for this particular lens) and change f-stops using the sub-command wheel (front one).

Hope this helps.

Welcome

With my D300 I turn the wheel on the front of the camera...I think you need to read your manual...

There is some GREAT information in it it has all this basic stuff in it...

The 50 D should have a CPU…So you shouldn't have to input lens data into your camera. What aperture can you get using the sub-command wheel? Maybe the lens contacts have been corroded and they don't connect correctly with the camera's body. I would try cleaning the lens contacts before anything else.

Keep trying as this should work fine ( I have a 50 1.8d and it works fine with my D700).

Good luck.

We tried to answer your question already. It's very difficult for us to respond to such a specific question without more details.

First, take the lens off the camera and try to move the aperture lever in the back of the lens to see if the blades do open fully. If the blades are stuck, then you will never get to 1.8.

Do the blades move freely when you move the lever?

Did you buy this lens new?

When did you get it?

How old is the camera?

Can you get it to 1.8 in A (aperture mode)? In S mode?

As much as I would love to solve your problem, maybe something is broken...

Sorry, this is as much as I can do.

Good luck.

Are you expecting the actual number to change on the lens? What does it say in the viewfinder?

Wow, this question again? Ok, if this doesn't work it's either operator error or your camera is faulty.

Lock your aperture at f22 with that little red switch on the lens.. Control aperture as normal through the camera. Done.

Yes,,, this lens lets you use the aperature ring on the LENS! or if you set it to F22, you can use the camera to change the aperature, so,, rotate the aperature to F22, move that little switch on the lens to lock it, and stay with the camera dials.

if that does not work, then faulty lens stuck at 5.6, and time for either a service and or new
lens, and you might consider getting a G lens, that must change the aperature by the camera.

This person has sent three PMs to me already which I have responded to with the same information as all of you have. I am thinking they are getting frustrated. Which I sure can understand. But I think what needs to happen is this person needs to contact the retailer they purchased it from.

So Jovallarta; If none of these tips we all are suggesting are correcting the problem you need to contact either the retailer where you purchased the lens or Nikon. The lens may be faulty. If you purchased the lens used you can contact a Nikon repair shop in your area.

Or chuck it out and buy a new one...I think he's a spammer myself...
