The main difference between D7000 and D5300 is D7000 has focussing motor inside the body while D5300 doesn't.  D5300 has to depend on the motor in the lenses with AF-S. Those lenses without AF-S wont be able to auto focus if used with D5300.  This is besides other factors in D7000 like weather seal, stronger body etc.But that's only my personal opinion.
