D610 Lens Advice Please

Hello all

I am looking to purchase a Nikon D610 soon and I'm trying to decide on what lenses I would like to get I recently had a Nikon D90 with a Nikon 18-200mm and a 50mm 1.8 but they were all stolen. I would like to re think my lenses as I know what I like shooting now but not a 100% on what I should get and I would love any advice from people with experience in shooting the same fields.

In order of what I prefer shooting would be:

Landscape
Low light / Night photography
Street

I never really used the high end of my 18-200mm but then again is was on a cropped sensor so I understand I will have to get used to a lens full frame camera being what it says it is.

I look forward to any advice you can give me:)

Though it's not quite the optimal for low light I love the 24-120mm f/4 for everything else you've mentioned. That and perhaps a 28mm f/1.8 prime for stars and either the 50mm or 85mm f/1.8 primes would do you.

What ^ said. A couple primes are the best for low light. Or get the 70-200... can't beat that, or 70-200 depending on the length you want. But can't beat the price of the primes for low light.

I would consider the 28/50/85 trio. Or the sigma versions in the f1.4 flavor.

Also the kit lens is a serious workhorse of a lens if light isn't an issue. More than suitable for landscape. So much so that I may just put off a 24-70 2.8 purchase for a while.

For wider landscape the 14-24 is the go to....if money is not an option. Second look may be the 16-35 f4. (I think that's right on the 16-35, but don't quote me. Its late and I have partaken in a few adult beverages.)

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your advice so far at the moment I'm going towards these lenses;

Nikon 28mm f1.8
Nikon 50mm f1.8
Nikon 85mm f1.8

And a medium zoom either the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 or Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 still undecided has anyone had experience with the Tamron 24-70mm? Iv read good things, getting this over the Nikon 23-70mm allows me to buy all 3 primes and stay in budget otherwise I will have to wait but I would rather wait if the Nikon is a much better lens.

I've been using the 24f2.8D with my D610 and have to say I'm extremely happy with it and get more use from that then my 50mm lens.

Buying lenses I think is quite personal, we can recommend what lens you like but is it right? Research is the key. We can give you an easy option but is that always the best?

I use for my D600 is

Nikon 28mm 2.8
Nikon 50mm 1.8
Tamron 28-105mm 2.8
Tamron 70-300 3.5-5.6

I will eventually get a 85mm 1.8 or 2.8 in the future.

Like colleagues BackdoorHippie and CakvalaSC answered: either a 24-120mm f4, or Tamron 28-105mm f2.8 would cover 90% situations for you. Add one ultra-wide lens (14/15mm f2.8) to this one, and you will be completed with both: focal lengths and aperture values "fast" enough for shooting almost everything...

This is about the best answer I've seen on this forum about lenses. You certainly can't argue with that!
