I just made a huge leap in the word and moved up from a really old d80 to a d610. The 610 was over my price range so I bought it refurbished through B and H photo. When I got the camera I immediately starting taking test photos and setting up my settings. I soon noticed there was something wrong with the pictures. I hadnt even taken the time to put a memory card in and I noticed that throughout the photo there were groups of false color in the photo. It almost looked like burt pixels but it wasnt in the same place it was in areas with highlights. Bright Red Purple and Green pixels showed up in certain areas of the photo where you would expect highlights like on the chrome faucet. When I used a flash it was even worse. I immediately started freaking out thinking I had a bad sensor. I thought it might be some sort of view setting so I put in a memory card and opened one of the pictures on my computer and it was the same. After talking to Nikon customer support they confirmed my suspicion that there was something wrong with the sensor. After a couple of hours I went back to it and starting messing around with the white balance and things like that the problem persisted. Then all of a sudden it went away almost as if it were a setting that needed to be changed. I have tried to replicate it but it appears to be fine now. If anyone has any insight to what this false color in the pictures that just went away I would like any information that I can get. My worst fear is that it comes back for good after the 90day warranty has expired. Sadly I did not save any of the photos that showed the problem.
