D600 wont work properly with SB800 flash

I recently bought a D600 and it won't work properly with my SB-800 speed light. It does not wake the flash from sleep mode when I focus for a picture so the flash wont go off on the first shot. It will go off once the flash wakes. It also will not work with the infra red auto assist light on my flash. The camera just keeps using the white light built into the body. I have checked to make sure I have the right focus mode on and the flash works fine with my D700. Any help would be very much appreciated.

That sounds like a communication issue, like your flash is not making contact with the small pins in the shoe. The contacts possibly could be dirty, or perhaps the flash is just not seated deeply enough into the shoe.

Have you checked to verify that you did not shut flash off in the camera settings? That would also affect operation.
