D5100 creates a shadow when using the flash

hrm, what flash mode is the flash set to? (click on the info button > select the flash bolt icon) I'm thinking it's on one of the slow or rear modes.

The flash is set to Auto. I tried changing the flash setting but nothing works so I put it back on auto. Do you have any other suggestions, please?

wow, that's weird. does it happen with faster shutter speeds as well?

As jack said it could be a sync issue, especially if it's happening with the sb-700 too.

The faster the shutter speed, the worse it gets, If I slow the shutter speed down, it works better, and no luck adding the SB 700. Same thing still happens. I'm guessing sync issue and am going in with it on Monday:(

I'm using the 35mm fixed Nikkor lens and I'm having this exact same problem... has anybody found a solution or cause for this???
