D40 - How do I upload photos from a digital camera to my computer?

While I have several card readers I alwyas prefer downloading direct from the camera because I have had issues in the past that over long term use I would have problems with the card being read in the computer meaning no matter what card I put in the computer it wouldn't read so my thought was that I had "worn out" the slot in the camera by taking the card in/out too many times. This happened with a P&S Sony as well as a Olympus E10. </p><p>Have you tried to use the "Nikon Transfer" program? As I don't have a D40 I cannot say if your camera can use this software, but I sucessfully use this on both my D3000 and D300S and love it.
