Hey everyone. This is my first post here, and Im looking for my first DSLR. And long story short, is a D3100 worth it for $125?

Theres a couple D3200s and D3300s for sale near me, but I havent heard from the sellers at all yet. (Ive heard from the person selling the D3100) They are going for about $150-$200. Ive got a little car photoshoot with some friends later on this week. So is it worth waiting to try and get the D3200 or D3300? Or would the D3100 being $125 be worth it for the meantime?

Side note: all cameras come with the 18mm-55mm kit lens

Ive been taking pics with my phone, learning to use manual mode, raw images, and post edit my pictures. I mainly only do car photography but will occasionally take pics of other stuff. Any thoughts, opinions are appreciated 🙏

I think it comes down to megapixels. Most of the other still photography features are not going to be overly different, but the D3100 is only 14MP versus 24MP with the others. You will notice that sort of difference in the detail, if you hold the camera steady enough.

When I moved from 10MP D80 to 16MP D7000 my eyes were opened to what I was missing out on with the older sensor. It's worth it.

Thanks for the quick reply! Thats makes a lot of sense. Ill wait to try and pick up something better than the D3100. I really appreciate the input!

Hey!If you can get the D3100 for $125, it's a pretty good deal to start with.Especially since it comes with the 18-55mm lens.the differences between, the D3200 and D3300 aren't drastic, especially when you're just starting out better to start shooting than keep waiting! If you're planning, to grow in photography, especially car photography you can always think about upgrading later At this price, the D3100 should serve you well. 🙂

Thanks! I ended up finding a D3300 for $160 with the kit lens and a 6k shutter count. And Im loving it so far!

You could probably make do with a 14 MP camera. That is especially true if you are primarily posting on social media. Having said that, I'm sure you will be happier with a 24 MP camera. If nothing else, it makes cropping much easier. I have found the AF-P 18-55G VR to be a surprisingly good lens, given it's price.

I agree, the kit lens seems to do really well (not that ive had anything to compare it to) and Im loving the 24mp too 🙏
