I've been using off-camera flash and sometimes fix the lighting depending on the subject and the effect that I want to get.  I don't know if my technique is actually correct or what so I would call the proper way to do things, but some of them seem to be working for me so that's just fine. When I set up in my shop for another shot I'll try to get a picture of what I'm using and how. Maybe that would help? I'm definitely no expert but willing to throw my two cents in anytime if it would help someone else. What subjects are you trying to shoot in macro? Insects or inanimate object's like flowers? Are you shooting indoors or out?</blockquote>
