Cropping

I notice when I crop on my camera, the cropped photo looks great. However when I crop in iPhoto, not so much. Am I missing something?

I guessing that you are looking at the cropped results on the camera, the ultra small monitor has a way of making pictures look great, often there is a let down when you see the actual image on a larger screen. So you might not be seeing the real effects of the crop,

but maybe you are downloading also the cropped picture from the camera and it still looks great, then,,, mmm maybe the camera software is superior.

I don't know that you're missing something, but I would think that cropping using software should almost always give you better results than doing it in camera - or at least as good. I've not used iPhoto, or done it in-camera for that matter, but I'm guessing there are settings there that you need to play with.

What is it about the crops on the computer that you don't like? Most programs will allow you to either stick with the aspect ratio of the original photo, choose a different fixed ratio or go freestyle. Is that what you're talking about? Check the settings available with the crop tool and see what it allows you to tweak.
