Counterfeit rechargeable batteries

What gets me is when local stores try to sell legitimate, off-brand batteries for the price of official ones when EVERYWHERE online there's a distinct 10-20$ gap, and the performance varies accordingly.

But performance does not vary accordingly. If the Nikon was twice as good as 3rd party legitimate o.es it might be worth twice the price but Wasabi seems as good (and some say better than) Nikon. So why pay more than twice as much. $100 for one nikon. $69 for two Wasabi (with a charger).

Which Nikon camera batteries cost 99?

Most I see are under $50 MSRP at national camera stores.

I would be interestedd out who is making the Nikon OEM battery.

Point is that when locals try to sell non-Nikon for or even more the price of Nikons. If the price is 10-20% difference, I'd rather get official stuff. If off-brands were like 40-50% cheaper, than those like I did with D5100.

In Canada. We pay twice as much for batteries. Shipping makes the US purchase about the same. If they will sell to Canada. Shucks.

That's the exchange rate talking right? :)

Yes, our dollar is only worth $ .92 US

Access Denied $69 at Bestbuy.COM (I tried to link to the Bestbuy.COM price for an EN-EL15 - I could see it but I can't buy it and apparently I can't even copy the link).

it makes sense that on .08 extra per dollar that becomes

Nikon Rechargeable Battery for D7000, D7100, D800 and V1 (EN-EL15) : Camera Batteries - Best Buy Canada $99 at Bestbuy.CA

NOT

.08 x 70 = $5.60 more in exchange - not $30 more or almost half again as much.

And that's at Bestbuy - other retailers sell for more.

Some retailers will not sell licensed Nikon products to Canada from the USA - and if they do Nikon Canada does not honour the warranty.

It is worse when you look at vehicle prices - we pay tens of thousands more for the same vehicle.

I know that friends in the UK might say we have it good, price upgrades to Britain is even worse.

No it's not exchange it is something else - I'm thinking greed but what do I know.

Well not counting the whole of Alaska of course. :)

I only live about a 12 hr drive to the US Border so cross border shopping is not a weekend trip.

There are upsides north of the border -a trip to the doc for a hang-nail won't bankrupt you for example. :p

Back in 2004 after buying my D70 on a vacation in the Canary Islands, I then bought a so called 'Genuine' Nikon battery for it off ebay, it was only after Nikon recalled all the early batteries for the D70 that I found out the one I bought off eBay was infact a fake, but in fairness, it has always worked just fine and never gave me any trouble .....

Yeah they are really hard to tell the difference sometimes. Luckily it worked out.
