Hi all, Just over 18 months ago I became a Grandpappy. Knowing I would want to take snaps of the baby playing on the swings etc, and join in the play, I decided I would need a compact camera. 'No good lugging a DSLR + lenses around for this job' I thought. But one thing I loathe about compacts' is the lack of an optical viewfinder. I found a s/h 7.1mp Canon A somethingorother with an optical viewfinder on eBay which I got for song. But the picture quality was gross. I did make a profit when I sold it again though! I decided to get something much better, which would suit the task and double as good camera to just slip in my pocket for any occasion. Again I turned to eBay and bagged a bargain. A Coolpix P6000 in exceptional condition other than the short battery life. That problem was soon fixed by updating the firmware to v1.2 and I had a fantastic addition to my kit. But woe is me, its now developed a problem. It powers up and the lens comes out and it will take a picture. However, the zoom no longer works; press playback and the last shot comes up on the screen but it wont scroll to other shots. Press 'menu' and the menu appears on the screen but, again, it wont scroll. Pop up the built in flash and it works, but close the flash and the ISO select screen appears??? Nikon suggested I remove the battery for half an hour or so. I removed it for a day, but to no avail. So, before I send it off to Nikon to see what's wrong and how much repair would cost, anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be and, more's to the point, how it might be fixed?
