My wife had a Nikon P520 Coolpix and loved it. She passed away about 4 years ago and after about a year I decided to check on the camera. As expected it refused to turn on, and I presumed that the battery had died, so I recharged it. When I put it into the camera it still refused to turn on. I then presumed that for some reason the battery had lost its ability to fully charge so I purchased another one. After I fully charged it, it also refused to turn the camera on. I then went to the extreme of charging the camera by external line to a plug. It also did not turn the camera on. I took the camera to the Nikon repair center on Long Island, where I live, and was told that the charging connection in the camera had failed, but that Nikon had no parts to repair it. and that they were incapable of repairing the camera. It's a beautiful camera, and my wife never abused it, but as a result of Nikon's inability to repair it, it has become totally useless. I would advise anyone who wishes to purchase any camera in the Coolpix line to avoid that purchase. As a further bit of information, I am a Nikon user of long standing, currently owning (and using) a D7100, a D750, and a D5200. I have been involved in landscape photography for years and am an experienced photographer, so I am far from being a novice as far as the P520 is concerned. I do not, and did not, consider the P520 to be a snapshot camera, and I am quite shocked at Nikon's attitude.
