Computer monitor recommendations

I've realized that one limitation to properly evaluating my photos is that our computer monitor does have the best quality (it's a Dell but is several years old). What features/specifications/brands should I consider if I replace the monitor? Thanks.

I use a 24'' Dell Ultrasharp. I bought it along with my new desktop based partially on Nasim's recommendation (see HERE) and the fact it was on a crazy sale when I was buying my system.

I use a Samsung 22" LCD monitor for my desk top computer. Excellent colour rendition once it's tuned. My Lenovo lap top has a 14" monitor.

I have the same as Jack which is calibrated to get the colour and brightness where it should be. I find the Samsung to be very sharp with nice colours and contrast.

If I had to list the best monitor (in my opinion) it would be this one.

If you want the very best I can't see anything to beat the quality of my 27 inch Apple Thunderbolt Display.

Basically for the most accurate color you should be looking at an IPS monitor.

Apple have moved on since those days but you still have to light the candles that provide the lighting for my monitor. Yes it would be great with a PC if it had a motherboard that supported Thunderbolt connection and speeds.
