I have a closet full of camera bags. I gave up on finding the right bag. I just grab what works on a particular day, stuff it and go. What gets the most use is two things. A very simple lens case like this: Nylon Camera Protect Case Bag for Nikon DSLR D7100 D7000 D5100 D5200 D3200 | eBay Very minimal, not much protection. A camera sits on my coffee table in one of these. If we go for a ride, I grab it and go. I have a few of them, some deeper than others. If I am wearing the camera, this bag can be squished up and stuffed in another bag. #2 is one of these: Amazon.com : Tamrac M.A.S. Extra Large Lens Case (Black) : Camera Cases : Camera & Photo Belt loop or I hang it on something with a clip. I'm more of a path walker than a hiker but that's what I would use, the single lens pouch, camera around my neck and squishable camera case available. My next fav is an old Lowpro. Not sure what model, its long discontinued anyway. Its a shoulder bag style. Room for camera with lens and one extra lens. Well padded. I've dropped it without issue many times. Not ideal for hiking, but great for bringing to a school event, picnic, park, etc. And this is how the closet starts to fill up with camera bags.
