Challenge picture size

looking at my challenge pictures in the gallery versus in the challenge thread, there to me is a world of difference. For the next challenge is there away to have the images in the thread as large as in the gallery. To me it seems a shane not to post the challenge images in the best possible way.

After uploading your picture, you have to double click on it to open a "resize" window. You then select (well that's how I do it) full size and then click OK. You can also do this by going back to your post and click "Edit" do the same and it will be larger if you uploaded a larger pic.

Hope this does it for you.

my challenge photo, "pipe dream" is displayed 6.5 x 10 same photo in the gallery is 9 x 16 on my monitor. In threads 99% of the time i post as large as the site allows. Looking @ my 3 rd entry "organic" the detail in the gallery pictures is much better than in the thread. When we are putting our best photos forward for a contest it seem to me that they should be display to there best potental given the limits of the site. The gallery gives a better picture, can the challenge take advantage of this?

Seen this happening all over the place...
I was told that is to protect the images from being stolen & at the same time for the threads to load quickly.
But IMHO, i just loose the interest to post when i see a decent image on my system & after uploading it shows a smaller picture of much lower quality.
Posted quite a few threads regarding this, bugged a few mods & senior members as well :p
That's one of the reasons why i decided to end my 365.

I like looking at quality pics & at times due to the forum and/or restrictions a really good image appears very mediocre.
Especially in a photo forum, i think that's the most important factor.

Even while linking from other websites the forum re-sizes and resamples the images

I think they are probably re-sized downwards to save on bandwidth and loading time of the pages. Bandwidth is money and it can be A LOT of money if all the photos are huge, not to mention it can take forever to load a page if all the photos are 1MB in size. The photos I usually post here are at least 1000 px on the long side. This site resizes them down I am guessing to cut down on the amount of bandwidth each image and page generates.

Here's the thing about image size, if you're linking from elsewhere, the forum will display only to a certain size within the thread, probably to preserve the format of the page. In order to really view any of the photos you need to click on them and view them in the pop-up. Even then, if the photo is larger than your monitor, as mine probably are, the software will downsize to your monitor size. If you want to really view them then right-click and oen in another tab. It's a compromise, but one that makes sense from every sense other than looking at full-res photos.

For contests I usually click on one to pop it up and then right and left arrow my way through those displayed on that page of the thread.

When you resize for uploading, do you make it 72 pixels resolution? I dont ('cause Im lazy) but thought if that could be one of the reasons my pictures dont look as good uploaded as on my computer.

I typically upload mine at 300....some at 150.....depends what I'm uploading.

And there is also some colour balance and contrast that gets better when you view the "full or bigger size" after clicking on the thumbnail image.

We'll be discussing setting up a new gallery section for Assignments. Maybe we could keep a thread going for discussion but all photos would have to be also in the specific assignment gallery. This would make the comparison of images and the judging a lot easier.

I typically upload with a re-sized image to about a 8x10 at 79 pixels, and space limited to 360K, usually good enough for details, but not really risking the image to the re-use category (besides screen savers).
