American Football is played in Ireland from late Spring to end of Summer every year. This shot is from a game involving the nearest team to me, Waterford Wolves (blue and white strip) and Dublin Dragons; played in May 2013 in Waterford city, Ireland

Not my finest effort but I like it nonetheless.

When I was in school over 30 yrs ago,the U.S. Had a hard time accepting the game of soccer. I still played it with passion even though I wasn't going anywhere with it. I wonder if it's the same for American football there. I wasn't even introduced to soccer until I was around 11. At least today the kids start young.

It's the same story here in Ireland with regard to American Football, a niche sport but with a strong following nonetheless. There would only be a few hundred players in total but boy are they a committed bunch, at least those I have met anyway! I am out and out a true soccer man but sport is sport so I follow the fortunes of any local team, no matter what the code. The club in Waterford would be one of the better teams, and have a very big following. Their pitch is also one of the best in the country, a smashing turf on it.
