Yep.. Capture NX2 is a very powerful tool indeed.
Not at the levels of a Photoshop, but definitely on par with most of the other leading PP SW..
The lack of marketing, visibility & minimal tutorials have made it lesser used by folks.
i have used it to a very minimal extent & the results are quite impressive..specially if you take the time out to learn

Nothing should happen to your images as View NX is mainly a cataloging SW.
Better still, just make a temporary backup on an external drive if it concerns you

I like Capture NX2 it's pretty basic but works very well and it applies your in camera settings to RAW files something the others don't do. View NX2 to view and Capture NX2 to process.

There's a sixty day free trial period on CNX2.

It should be enough time to evaluate the software.

As a long-time CNX2 user I cannot imagine using anything else. I TRY to get everything right in-camera and when opened in CNX2 they look exactly the way they looked on the LCD. The added advantage is that CNX2 is then able to correct mine or the cameras mistakes.

There are a lot of in-camera settings that ONLY CNX2 recognises. One of these is the recently discussed Distortion Control Settings.

Rather than accept Adobe's approximations get the real thing?

So you glad you have it and not elements or L.R.5 cause I believe Nikon software should really work well with Nikon cameras.
Don't know why ViewNX2 has just started giving me all kinds of problems.

Not at all - I have used CNX2 with a D70, D200, D300, D700 and now a D600.

This might help:

Your problems "possibly" stem from the use of Nikon Transfer??

Do you use it??

Is your VNX2 the latest edition??

DG

P.S. If you are going to install the latest version it might be a good idea to completely uninstall your existing version (and Transfer) and use the NIKON supplied version of RegSweeper or PrefSweeper specially tailored to get rid of any problematic Registry entries before re-installing.
