Cannot Set Focus to 3D or Auto

On my D500, when I cycle through the modes, I don't see 3D or Auto. I don't care about auto, but wanted to play with 3D. All I see are dynamic, group and S. It is set for AF-C. I've tried it with Nikon's 200-500mm, Nikon's 24-120 and a Nikon 35mm prime, no change.

Is there a setting I'm missing that limits the modes?

You haven't got them disable? Looks like it might be a9 Limit AF-area mode selection for the D500.

If you’re not seeing the 3D tracking mode on your Nikon D500, it might be due to a few reasons:
  1. AF Mode Setting: Ensure your camera is set to AF-C (Continuous Servo AF). 3D tracking is only available in this mode1.
  2. AF-Area Mode Selection: You might need to enable 3D tracking in the AF-area mode settings. Press the AF-mode button and rotate the sub-command dial until “3D” is displayed in the viewfinder and control panel1.
  3. Lens Compatibility: While most lenses should support 3D tracking, ensure that the lens you’re using is compatible and properly attached.
If you’ve checked these settings and still don’t see 3D tracking, it might be helpful to reset your camera settings to default or consult the camera’s manual for further troubleshooting.
