Can A Broken AF Motor Be Repaired?

Hi All,

I've got a Nikon 17-55 f2.8 lens that is taking perfectly fine focused images up close, but anything far away is blurry. I bought this lens used in 2012, and the owner had it for a couple of years before that. It has had a lot of use, but is this

A. Normal for a nikon lens? and B. Is this fixable?

Thank you! :rapture:

First, the simple try. Make sure Auto Focus (AF) is turned on. The cameras have a switch on front, sort of under the lens, at about 4 O'clock position around the lens, looking at the front. AF is on, M is manual focus. We can accidentally hit that switch and change it.

Some lenses also have an AF switch on them. Don't know about that one.

Is this the lens I diagnosed with a busted AF motor in a previous thread... This sounds familiar. Anyway as to your questions:

A: Unfortunately it's not all THAT uncommon. I would not call it "normal", however.

B: Doable? Absolutely. It will also set you back somewhere in the realm of $500, or thereabouts.
