Was just a quicky - do you guys have gadget insurance for your cameras and accessories? - if so any recommendations, tips and bad experiences?

Thanks, Scott.

in the u.s. You can get home owners or renters insurance, then get a rider to cover insurance on your $$$toys. The insurance companys will want an inventory/photos/sn's.

I'm in the uk and my home contents covers everything up to £1500 including photo gear. Therefore I only have to specify and pay for the 70-200 2.8 as that was £1600.

Ah ok, Well, I've been renting a property for over a year now and forgot about house/contents insurance!! IDIOT I KNOW!
But we plan on moving into a static caravan (on my father in law's field) in the new year. - I wouldn't want any claims to do with his land/property and other than my car. laptop and camera (I am looking at upgrading soon too) my other toys are not worth insuring.

So I was kind of asking about independent 'gadget insurance' - I need to research myself, was just fishing for tips to speed up the process and ensure I come off with a good deal :)

Well, on a brief look this site looks pretty good! - Thanks! I will look further into the detail. Accidental damage 'not covered' sections looks a bit dubious, bumps scratches dents, mechanical and electrical not covered? well I'd like to see a good T&C document on that lol. Voluntary excess, no mention of the age of the equipment to be covered or a requirement of proof of purchase. option to pay a one off lump sum cheaper than the monthly payments.

I also looked at 'protectmybubble' gadget insurance - this was quadruple the price of the one you have recommended and required that the gadget to be insured needed to be less than 12months old and be bought from a UK VAT registered retail company. blah blah - typical get out clause, not covered for a lot. plus a £50 excess. - not impressed with the 1 year old only thing at all.

Having read the T&Cs of the site you suggested and the prices quoted I would definitely use them should I decide to take it out :) they seem honest an open (can read policies online in PDF) and ask any questions via phone or email.

Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Hi,

Looked into this (As I am going to London soon) and it specifies that receipts are required as proof of ownership - I bought most of my equipment second hand and therefore cannot provide these. Looks like i'm stuck without insurance - it is something all gadget insurance companies require by the look of it.

:( - will have to look at chaining it to myself or something

I am in essence a 'gypsy'.. Hahaha!

I live in a mobile home (has planning permission) on my father in-law's field - I don't think we can get home insurance on this, it is classed as temporary accommodation for a 3 year period.

My girlfriend and I are doing this for 3 years to save up enough for a deposit on a house. - its a sad situation when a teacher and a skilled craftsman cannot save any money by renting as we have been for the last 2 years.. :concern: Fortunate that we have this opportunity though.

I think i'm in a situation where I've just got to be super cautious and genuinely accept if I lose, break or get mugged my gear - £1,200 (cost not RRP, RRP would be way more lol) walks away with the incident.
