I have just about fixed on the 60mm micro 2.8 d to be my next lens. Would appreciate imput from those who own this lens as to its pros and cons. Have read almost every review I could lay my hands on but still rely on my fellow Nikonites to give me the best advise.

The 60mm lens is a nice sharp one. The biggest problem with it is you have to be right up on the subject almost so close if you're taking a close-up it's hard to get light to it. So the longer lenses are much better for doing that. I use it as a replacement for 50 mm when I'm on travel and I might need a macro. The 105 mm is really that's my favorite of the macros I have the 200mm, 105, and 60. It is nice and light however.

I have the 55D f2.8, its a very sharp lens, and built like a tank. I dropped it from about 4 foot onto concrete, the only damage was the UV filter smashed, apart from a scuff in the paintwork the lens wasn't worried at all.

The things that were annoying me most about it were, you had to have the lens very close to the subject if anywhere near 1:1, and the front of the lens telescopes right out when focusing in close. Made it difficult for insects.

Depends what you want to use it for I guess. Its a good length for small product photography ( which is what I bought my 55 for )

I don't think I have used the 55 since I got my 105vr, which is great by the way.

I know you wanted to hear from 60D owners, but I just wanted to comment on my experiences with the 55, as its a similar focal length, and I think a similar vintage, mine might be slightly older.

The 60mm is a cracking lens, I bought mine a few years ago, but after only using it a couple of times, sold it on, I was finding myself having to get too close to the subject I was photographing at the time (Butterflies), which don't like you getting too close, as soon as you cast a shadow over them, there off, now I use my 28-105 which has half size macro on it, I'll be getting the Nikon 105mm soon.
The 60mm is a cracking lens, nice sharp images, but depending on what you waht to use it for, you may find a longer focal length lens a better option.
