Burst vs Single shot question

All things being equal (and steady), is there any loss of image quality using burst mode vs single shot?

Does burst mode work better with RAW or JPEG or is that a non issue?

Any advice from those with sharper vision than mine would be greatly appreciated.

JPEG is far easier for the camera to transfer to memory card than RAW (RAW files are bigger). There is not necessarily any loss of image quality while shooting in either. However, shooting in burst mode does enable you to capture action better. Also, once the second picture in the burst is taken, the camera has more or less stabalized; therefore, subsequent shots will most likely be a bit more bang on then the first photo.

With a fast enough card (and I'm guessing you have a D5100) a UHS-1 compatiable card will give you 50MB/s write speed, which should be more than adequate to take pictures in RAW and burst mode.
(As an example, RAW & jpeg on top settings on my camera, currently indicates I could take 10 pictures before the buffer fills up)
