The Melbourne Cup is the biggest race in this part of the world and is run annually.
This year's event promises to be bigger and better and more exciting than ever - don't bother phoning anyone in Australia this coming Tuesday they will be far too busy.
Here in New Zealand we have nothing as big so we succumb to our neighbours and follow the race with great enthusiasm - very little work is done in offices and workplaces around the country as everything grinds to a halt and people concentrate on the horses they have drawn in the "office pool". its big news.
Sadly though many of the local hard working jockeys are forgotten in the interests of BIG events so this photo is dedicated to those little guys and gals trying to ply their trade in this cutthroat (and sometimes) crooked industry.
