There's always something with a reasonable flat surface you can put the cam on; a trash bin, stairs, a bench. I usually keep one hand pressed on the cam to ensure it can't wobble. If there's nothing in the field of view, I don't need to look through the viewfinder to focus, the cam can do that without my help.The kit lens is not bad. I took some pretty sharp shots with it.For upload I use JPEG 80, 72 dpi 1200 longest side.
