Always beside me no matter where I was he was right beside me or waiting patiently for me to come home. Adopted as a senior with a very rough past I was told he wouldn't live long but I brought him home and he loved and protected me far more than I could have ever wanted. He had bird shot imbedded in his skull which they found when removing 4 of his teeth, he cowered and wet himself when anyone raised their voice and couldn't walk 100ft without having to lay down because he was so underweight and unused to activity. His hips were already very bad but he kept active following me around chasing kids. He loved to "sing" to me and could howl like a wolf and thumped that tail always so happy but if he took a dislike to someone he had a presence and a growl that no one argued with! Work men etc could work all they wanted around the house but Max would find a place close but not too close to watch that workman didn't get past him LOL I had to keep checking because they would not be allowed down the hallway or up the stairwell (he took up the entire space so no going around him) where kids and I were. We could talk but he stayed between us with occasional sounds if a step too close was taken <img src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" class="smilie smilie--sprite smilie--sprite1" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" loading="lazy" data-shortname=":)" /> Not sure what he would have done (glad I never found out) but as long as strangers respected didn't try to get past him he was as calm as could be but with a growl that you couldn't help but respect hehe Friends and family he seemed to know instinctively the difference probably from so closely watching me. Never needed a leash because he rarely left my side but he was rather big so in public I'd put a leash on him as some people are weird about dogs. 13yrs for a giant breed is good long life but I'm a little lost without him panting at my feet tonight and greeting me all day long with a song or a tail thump. [QUOTE="snaphappy, post: 191446, member: 12198"] Disclaimer: not all photos taken with Nikon as I've only had mine for 7mnths but was blessed with my faithful shadow Max for 7yrs. Always beside me no matter where I was he was right beside me or waiting patiently for me to come home. Adopted as a senior with a very rough past I was told he wouldn't live long but I brought him home and he loved and protected me far more than I could have ever wanted.
