At 3lbs 8oz it's no light weight but that's why I also have the Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 VR lens. I like to do outdoor/landscape photography so the Tamron will fit the bill just fine for that. It also does an excellent job for close up/portrait work from the pictures I've seen. The Nikon 70-300mm lens will work for most of the everyday things I photograph. I do a little wildlife photography and the Nikon will be excellent for that. Plus it will be lighter for the times when I don't wast to pack a lot of weight.
I have wanted a 70-200 for years but could never afford the Nikon version and didn't care for the other brands that were available at the time. After reading posts and watching YouTube videos for the last week I took the plunge today and bought one. It's a beast compared to the lenses I've used in the past. Now all I have to do is get some days off so I can go shoot with both the 70-300 and the 70-200!!
