Blind Test!

OK Going to try this again.

Bought a new lens and was just trying to get a feel on what people thought of its sharpness or lack there of at 300mm.

These three shots where all take at 300mm wide open with varying shutter speeds and ISO's.100% crops are next to them. They were imported into LR tones adjusted slightly and exported with normal sharpening for screen.

Nothing fancy was just trying to get a few for the 250+ range from which I am only concerned.

Thank you

OK those are the 100% crops. I didn't put up the originals. Not looking for criticism on how bad they are. Just trying to see if the lens looks to be performing within spec.

I typically have only shot with the new 1.8 g primes and just needed a general purpose tele for the long end.

Must admit its quality i could live with if i had bought a 55-300 and be happy,if i had a 300 2.8 ED IF prime ........... all these things are relative which lens is it.

No its a 300mm zoom shot wide open at 5.6.

Distance to subjects are: 5m for bird, 10m for play set, and 25m for mail box.

I want to keep it unbiased from brand that's why I didn't not include it. It is a 300m zoom though.

I typically shoot with primes only so I have not much experience with zooms. So I was not short if this sharpness falloff at 300 was in spec. It is getting hard chasing a 2 year old around outside with a 85mm prime though lol.
