Black Friday Tripod

So with Black Friday here I decided to take the opportunity to replace my hand-me-down cheap tripod my dad got 30 years ago. I'm stuck between 2 of them: this tripod/monopod combo Rocketfish 70" Tripod/ Monopod Combo (RF-TRPM70) - Black : Tripods - Best Buy Canada or this tripod: http://www.amazon.ca/Manfrotto-MKC3-H01-Compact-Photo-Movie-Black/dp/B004MKNJ84

I'm indecisive because I hear the combo has some disadvantages depending on the situation or environment you're shooting in so I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

I would avoid the rocketfish tripod... the manfrotto is slightly better, but if you are on a budget, why not look into Sunpak, Dolica, Cowboy Studios...

I'd be willing to spend more, I just chose those cause they seemed go for the price. I have around 200 bucks saved up though.

Buy a decent tripod. Buy a cheap one & you will be replacing it sooner than later. Cheap can be an expensive way to go. I had spent enough money on cheap tripods to easily pay for my Gitzo.

Save for a good one.

I don't think you want this Manfrotto tripod, it is rated for only 3 lbs and is meant for a small compact camera. You should look into one that hold at least 25% more than your camera + your heaviest lens

Keep an eye on Craigslist. I've scored several excellent tripods through Craigslist and worked my way up to my current tripod. And best of all, I used the savings to buy a quality head. You'll find very quickly that heads vary a great deal and the cheaper heads are cheap for a reason. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, especially in camera gear.
