I assume the hardware is fine but the "black screen of WTF" seems to be one of those problems Macbooks suffer but for which no cause has been identified. It's like the Bermuda Triangle. ;) The first time it happens you have no idea what goes wrong. You can't even power it down and it was only because I have a second monitor attached, I knew the system was still active, well at least somewhat. Then you got to call someone to be able to push that very easy combination of Cmd/Alt P + R and the power button to be able to shut the thing down. After you restart it's as if nothing happened. Until the next time. But the black screen isn't as bad as my full memory being drained while it was just sitting there. 16Gb in maybe five or ten minutes doing nothing. And I have nothing on auto-update or connected to anything remotely social. Everything that I didn't need has been removed. Except those apps my OS can't do without in order to function, like chess or games. What's with that btw? It can't operate without chess?
