Your reasoning is similar to what I used to think before a few years ago especially when I was getting into DSLR from a D80 to D700. I ended up spending more and wasted a lot of time since I found it out the hard way by buying and selling my equipment simply because I wasn't satisfied with the lens performance that I thought were good and did not listened nor understood what the experts were trying to tell me.
