I'd suggest you pass on the warranty on a camera, unless you're out shooting in really adverse conditions. There are certain items that are high-risk, and you can justify purchasing a warranty for. I recently purchased a HP printer because I've gone through 3 printers over the past 10 years, so I felt that purchasing my warranty via HP, was a good idea. I called HP to troubleshoot my current printer. After our feeble efforts of resolving my issue failed, the HP-phone rep offered me a newer printer with 3 years of warranty coverage for an additional $30. Plus, I was able to negotiate the cost of the printer, by going to the Bestbuy site, while the HP rep had my computer in remote. She saw that Bestbuy had a lower price, so she got her supervisor to lower the original cost of the printer by $10, matching Bestbuy's price. So now, I have a new printer, with 3 years of unlimited customer service support and a guarantee of replacement, if the printer has an issue that can't be resolved. I don't have to go to a retailer. I can call HP directly.
