It replaced my older Tamron 20-40 2.7-3.5, not because I disliked the 20-40 I was just looking for a wider lens.  I'm shooting FX and found the difference between 17mm and 20mm significant.  Not sure how that would be on a D7200.  IF buying used be sure to get a warranty from a reliable dealer - or you pays yo money and taks yo chances.  Bigger concern for me was that these are both a little short ending at 35 or 40mm.</blockquote>
