Baterry Grip MB-D14 what a disapointment

I just got my new MB-D14 baterry grip from Nikon and a fresh new baterry EN-EL15. Recharged the batterry, installed the grip as told under my new D600 and the only thing that works on this grip is the shutter button. The aperture and shutter speed dials are basically decorative items they do not work at all.

I should have saved over $200 and order a non branded copy of this item....probably it would have work much better than this crap. I am very surprise that Nikon can deliver something so defective like this....:upset:

Sorry for the rant.....I guess you guys should know.

I had to assign the buttons for my grip and tell them to do what I want, you might try that first before you rule it defective because I thought the same thing too. I love mine now that I got it all figured out and couldn't imagine my D600 without it!!!! Let me know what you figure out I am curious now. Thanks

There have been numerous fakes out there.
Some of them look exactly like the real deal.
I fell for one of the traps and had it not been for f-stoppers video i would not Jane even known.
I got the mb-d11. It came with the same box, packing, manual exactly the same.. just no Nikon warranty.
Some things to look out for in a fake-
The dials not working, like in your case.
The dials must not freely rotate.. like its frictionless.
The material on the grip will match exactly the material on the camera for the original.
And some other signs.

These were sold on Amazon too... Without their knowledge.. but it goes to show how close these fakes have gotten today

You have too set the menu F9 to use the buttons on the grip...

Worst case just return it. I'm sure you bought it from a trusted retailer.

But I would do as others have mentioned first.

I ordered it from B&H. I have already requested to return the unit. I have read the manual but it talks about setting up the Af/AE dials. The rotary dials should work as expected but they don't .

i like the feel and stability it gives the camera, shame it does not work properly .

Guys. I was totally wrong. Once I went to set up the AE/AF button some how the camera recognized the battery and the two rotating dials now work as expected.
Thanks again to all for your comments and sorry for stupidity. My worst worries was if this was a Nikon hardware and is no good, then what next??. I am very glad this not the case.

I think we have all had these moments at one time or another. Now we want to see some great photos.
