If I think I may need it, I take the backpack. A couple of the times I decided to go light, I ran into a situation that I REALLY wished I'd had my long lens with me. Having recently passed the 70 year mark, I find that 20+ lbs of gear on my back makes getting up from a squatting position more challenging than it used to be. If you are shooting wildlife/nature like I do mostly, you will probably have a lot more heavy gear than a street photographer, and your bag needs will be different.</p></blockquote><p></p>
