TIP!!! Back button focus and telephoto lenses

I have been using back button focus for the last several months and really like the control that it gives me having access to both locking the focus on a subject and also having the ability to use continuous focus with one button. I was shooting with my Tamron 150-600mm lens today at a still subject so I focused with the back button and then released it to lock focus on my subject. This seemed to be a great idea but while I was sitting there it dawned on me that when I went to take my shot that due to the fact that my camera was not focusing, because I had locked focus, that the stabilization wasn't working either. This method of focusing and locking the focus by removing my thumb from the rear button also eliminated the stabilization that is very helpful on longer focal lengths. It just never occurred to me before. This is something that needs to be considered when locking your focus or focusing manually when using stabilization because the stabilization will be disabled and won't be working to help you get sharp images.

I never thought about that before. Are you sure the stabilization is off? I have no idea about it. You can always put your thumb back in place if needed

VR is tied to shutter release. Press the shutter release, and VR will be activated.

I stand corrected! It does reactivate when the shutter is pressed. Thanks for setting me straight!

It's the only pitfall when shooting AF-C
