It's fortunate that you have it in reserve. My wife's old laptop was Vista-driven and suffered an HD failure. I kept the machine and am wondering if I can somehow procure an old HD on the cheap.

Up until a few years ago, I had kept my old TI-99/4A computer from the early '80s just for the fun of it. Being a sort of yestertech guy, I think back on the days of my TI, and my later DOS-based machines and realize that it was kind of fun being on the cutting edge of something new, doing my own coding, saving programs on cassette tapes and joining a local computer club through a BBS, all connected by telephone modem.

Hope you get your modem back soon and re-enter the 21st Century. :)

I can relate. I worked with a developer in Colchester named Martin for over 15 years developing software. We also had some "off shore" resources (Martin's Term) that were good programmers, but they did not speak Kentucky and I could not understand them. Martin was my interpreter. I think they were a little scared of me... in the end Martin spared me from including them in the conference calls... I was not mean to them.... I just could not understand them between the bad connection and the language barrier we were not very productive. Good that you have a patient wife with a keen ear.
