Hi Sam I think this would have been a much better composition had the lizard been facing you and the eyes sharp, but I guess such are the trials and tribulations of dealing with wild life. The sharp boundaries between the in and out of focus areas look very artificial and seems a part of your PP work. this doesn't really work for me as is, perhaps you could try feathering the boundaries a bit.

Just had a look at the exif data. f8, 400th shutter speed.

The shutter speed hasn't maxed out so you could have (should have) used a larger aperture.
Creating bokeh should only be used if the shot cant be taken with a large aperture, not always possible when a qick photo oportunity presents itself though.
Nice lizard and texture.

What a cute little guy!

The blend needs to be feathered more out, I agree very much. And then I would use a dodge tool on the head and on the eye, its too dark and that is the part you wanna have focus on.

But a nice picture, and I like the position. Would have been better if you have asked it to move so it faced the sun, but not sure he would have done it ;) Hope you saved the original image, so you can try editing again.
