Autofocus area question

When I got my Z7ii earlier this year I noticed I was having issues with soft images with a number of different AF area settings. I found that single point gave me good results, and I have been using that for almost all my shooting. When I'm not shooting macro, I use my 200-500 with an FTZ adapter, so I thought it was just using a long, adapted lens. I was shooting some swans today and tried using my 24-70 F4 Z lens and set it to auto area. I thought I was getting nice sharp images until I got home and discovered most, if not all shot with this were soft. I tried a few with the wide area animal detect, and was unhappy with the results in the field.

I did some testing with my Z5 and this lens, and found that AF tune was unnecessary. I suppose I should try that again with the new camera, but I get good results with single point. Does anyone else have this issue with their Z7ii?

Well, I went out back this afternoon and set up my camera bag as a target and tried several different modes. I think I may need to switch to continuous mode more often. It seems to work well enough on absolutely stationary subjects.

There's no reason to change away from continuous autofocus unless you have to focus and recompose. I never focus and recompose with the AF settings available these days.

I got mine from my dad. When I was a kid, I liked to go watch him develop film and prints in the darkroom he had set up in his shop. After I got married, I got the bug and set up my own darkroom. Now my daughter and I go on photo outings.
