I know apple is dumping support....but iPhoto is was too weak for me at this point.

Have a jacked up Macbook, fast and a big hard drive upgrade recently.....would you still put Aperture 3 on or wait for apple to introduce the new product?

They are still selling it of course.....

Not interested in LR, PS or the like for Macbook.

Apple fans chime in?

I wouldn't spend the money on it. I bought it years ago and really like it, but when they said it was going to be replaced I purchased LR.

I do still store pictures in aperture for sharing on my iCloud. Which to me is a negative for LR.

I wish apple would hurry it up and release the new photos app, which there has been no news lately that I have seen.

Seriously dude, quit messing around! Get the LR/PS thing for 10 bucks a month, then get the Nik Tools for whatever it costs now and you'll be all set.

It works and is good software, just wouldn't want to invest in something that will never get major updates or new features. They will update it for new OS but for how long.

I thought Apple was pretty clear and said they were done with Aperture, and any further development was going to be done in iPhoto... I wouldn't try to convince them otherwise by sending them money for Aperture... There's probably a brazzillion free RAW/Photo editing apps that run on a Mac platform that are better than iPhoto's kludge...

Fred <-- an Apple fanboy for many years...but a realist... :D

I would probably be in agreement, as to whether throwing money into an old app would be worth it... Personally saying, I would hold off and look into purchasing a program that would still end up having some type of support. However, if you have no need for any support and at the bare minimum you would be able to at least get updates for new camera raws, then it would it may be possible of it having worth.

Maybe I am too lazy to learn a new editor, but I am sticking with Aperture. It does everything that I need and editor to do except good black and white conversions. For that, I have Tonality. I am not interested in the new IPhoto at all. I hear that it will be geared more to the cloud and social media sharing. This is the only site I share any of my photos with and have no desire to expand on that.

It sure would help if we knew when Photos was going to be introduced. I'll use Aperture as long as I can, but I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it today. I understand not wanting to use LR or PS. It sure freed up resources not installing them on my new iMac.

Actually, I think Apple's statement was that they were going to roll an Aperture release to support Yosemite, but then the updates end there.

I agree though, I wouldn't spend money on it or invest the time learning Aperture when it's already stated to be a dead-end product. There are two many other options out there that make more sense for anyone getting started, to recommend starting with Aperture at this point.
