Anyone tried a SteadePod?

Ive got a lightweight tripod with a QR plate, but I hardly ever use it as I cant be doing with the hassle of carrying it (or a monopod) and setting it up. My view of things is that the simpler the system the more likely you are to use it, and thats how I try and set up my gear, especialy camera bag - Ive just bought a Crumpler banana hammock as I can just open the flap and shoot straight away without having to unzip / unfasten anything.

Ill post my impressions of the Steadepod when it arrives, but in the meantime I thought Id get a thread going and see what others think of it.

I have a friend who had one of those...2 of them in fact.

I tried it once, and while it's better than nothing, it's just barely better than nothing in my opinion. Certainly not a substitute for even a monopod, much less a tripod. And like I said, she went through 2 of them because the first one broke after only a couple weeks of use. After the 2nd one broke, she quit using them. Been awhile since I looked at that thing, but if I remember right, there were a lot of negative reviews about build quality.

Good luck with it, but it seems like a gimmick gadget.

b & h reviews mention poor quality. Screw an 1/4 x 20 eyebolt into the bottom of your camerra and attach a line and you have the same thing for a couple bucks.

ah poo :) oh well Ill see how it goes, if it breaks, Ill get a refund. Ive tried using a string and bolt method, the main problem is just keeping it tidily and clean
