I think the YN565EX is an excellent flash and an unbelievable bargain, generally strong and well behaving and it delivers good performance, as expected, but I do have three minor complaints (which do not much interfere with my enjoying a very capable flash). 1. The DX zoom mode does not work, it always stays in FX zoom (totally insignificant issue for me, even with DX). 2. The Ready LED warning that the flash power was insufficient for proper exposure does not work. Ready does work, but not this specific warning (for example stupidly trying bounce flash at f/16 ISO 100 cannot be expected to be sufficient, but there is no warning that it was insufficient). Says it does, but it does not. I do miss that one. It tells us to change something, that compensation cannot work. 3. The AF assist light is overly bright, and has a menu to disable it on the hot shoe, and does, but it is not disabled for any off camera slave operation. Continually flashes, about once a second. That one is the biggie for me, but one can easily cover the small LED with a piece of tape. I'm thinking this stuff might work in the Canon version (?), but does not on my Nikon version. For example, the packing box says Speedlite, which is the Canon name for Nikons Speedlight. It does have some redeeming virtues, like the dumb D-lens distance does not corrupt it (direct flash TTL BL mode), and Manual power can set 1/3 stops including between full and 1/2 power, etc. Better than Nikon in those ways, and as good as SB-800 in most other ways, but a few minor loose ends. Said again, it is a great flash, and a rather powerful one, and delivers performance very well, but does not quite have Nikons polish. Maybe next version? But, it has more power than SB-700, and costs less than 1/3 of the SB-700 price, which are overwhelming features. My purpose here... Can any YN565EX owners dispute or explain the issues above? Am I just missing something?
