Not as stable as my much heavier, sturdier Manfrotto 'pod but "The Tripod of the Beast" will get the job done if conditions permit. As with most things, it's a trade-off of form vs. function. The form makes it much more likely to be taken to begin with, but it's no Manfrotto 055X PROB meaning it won't buck the wind as well and you may need to give it a second to "settle" before dropping the shutter. Be prepared to use the delay timer, perhaps, in less than ideal conditions. Still, build quality is quite good and it converts quickly to a pretty useable monopod (which I like a great deal). In short, it's a very GOOD tripod. Not a GREAT tripod. It will not knock your socks off but it works well and it's very, very convenient.....</blockquote>
