Any Tilley Hat fans here?

I love mine. I have had one for about 10 years now, and I was thinking that it might be time for another one. The one I have is still good and has a lot of life left in it, but it is starting to show some signs of wear. I wear it all the time during the summers. My stepson kind of made fun of me when I first got it, calling me "Indy" (a rib at looking like Indiana Jones, which kicked off a lesson in that Tilleys are not Fedoras, which is that jewel of a hat that Indiana Jones sports). But he changed his tune after the first few times I took it camping. Nice, ample amounts of shade. My neck and ears (and slowly increasing amount of visible scalp) were not even the slightest bit affected by the sun, while everyone else had blistered necks and ears (since their chosen baseball style caps offered little projection in those areas). I wear mine anytime that I am outdoors for an extended period. And they are nice to have if it starts to rain. It also makes it easy for my wife to find me if we are at an outdoor event where there are a lot of other people. She just looks for the hat, and I am under it! It is a part of my photo walk gear as much as my camera. Tilley Hat? Check. Camera? Check. Camera bag? Check. Let's roll. Plus, I think they just look sharp. I had mine on once when I was at my brother-in-law's house, and he liked it so much, he got one for himself for golfing. He doesn't go golfing without it now.

I currently have a model that they don't offer anymore. It is the wider brimmed khaki T4 with the built in insect guard (which has long since lost its effectiveness, I'm sure). I was thinking about getting the Hemp model. I like the color, and I like the wider/longer brims. Not much for the hooded/caped models as I don't have much use for those features.


So how about it? Do you have a Tilley Hat? Are you a fan?

I have two Tilley hats. One is all mesh and one has a mesh ring around the top. I really like them.

Oh yes. I LOVE mine. You'd be surprised at the high number of comments I receive from strangers complimenting me on my hat. It is an LTM6. The brim on the front/back is 3-1/2" while the sides are 2-1/2". My first one was in olive. Then I bought a khaki one with olive underneath the brim. Amazon had ONE left in grey that happened to be my size (pictured) so I bought it this spring, and I also ordered a black one directly from Tilley this spring, too. So I should be set for quite a while now! The only color I didn't get was the MultiCam (Camouflage).

I've got two of them; one is off-white and the other is brown. When it gets real hot outside, I crush and fold some ice cubes into a wet terry cloth and that helps me stay cooler. If I'm working hard outside, a small towel soaked in ice-water is under the hat and hanging down over my neck and shoulders. My only problem with it is that it gets in the way of taking photos with a flash mounted on the camera.

I bought my son a Tilley two years ago when he went sailing in the Florida Keys for a week, and now he wears it a lot.

And BTW, hark, I really like they gray one you're sporting in the photo. I may have to look for one in that color!

Had one; lasted about two years between the hort department and the field. Now I buy Sloogers that last just as long and cost a tenth. More importantly, I don't feel like I've let my hat down.

Thanks. The gray is the one Tilley doesn't make anymore, but I was fortunate to find this one through Amazon--and it was brand new with tags. Hopefully you can find a new one possibly through a seller other than Tilley. This grey has a slight blue color to it which is fine. They do make one in navy, too, although I don't have that color. One of their employees said the black can be hot in the summer, but got the black for wintertime.

I had to Google Tilley to know what was being talked about. Ha! I guess I am not in with the uptown crowd. Ha! If it is not Stetson, Bailey or anything along that line, I'm not familiar with it. Ha! I do actually use an Outdoor Research Sombriolet Camouflage Sun Hat. Works pretty well for keeping the sun off the ears, nose, etc. Ha!

Similar in style, only they are canvas instead of felt like the Akubra's are. Tilley hats were originally designed as hats for recreational sailors (as they float, or are supposed to) and are designed to wear well in various types of weather. They have a lanyard on them that can be used to go under the chin to help keep the hat on in windy conditions. The Akubra's have a dressier edge, and they are just a little bit more expensive, though not much. Akubra makes some really sharp hats.

Well, I joined the club. I picked up a Tilley Tec-Cool TTCH1.
Looks good and comfortable to wear. I was interested the LTM6, but this one caught my interest. Looks a touch more casual. I'm not yet 100% sold on the summer hat thing, but I need to start wearing some cover. This hat was appealing because it is said to be a little lighter and a little cooler. We'll see. Its cold here now, but I already gave it some use keeping snow off my head. I'm considering getting the LTm6 too, the olive color might be better for winter. LL Bean carries it and I have a 20% off coupon and $20 promo credit to use up, so around $50.

That would be an excellent price! Amazon carries some Tilley hats, too, which is where I bought my first two. Enjoy it--they are terrific hats.
