Any recommendations on OS X security software?

I'd always heard that you don't need to worry too much about hackers and Macs, but it would seem that somehow someone hacked into my United Airlines frequent flier account. I barely use it anymore, and only used it recently to fly to FL and back, and to the best of my recollection the only machine I ever logged in on was my Macbook Pro. I could be wrong, but I want to be on the safe side, so if you've got recommendations let me know.

And thankfully the airlines called me before shipping out an iPhone and Macbook Pro to a certain scofflaw in Minnesota who, instead of white boxes, will be getting a visit from the FBI.

I would think its on the UA side and wonder if they were impacted by heart bleed or what ever that was called. If it was your computer then they would gotten a lot more than just this one acct.

Quite possibly on the UA side, but better safe than sorry, which is the reason for my asking. With browser vulnerabilities advertised almost daily I'll never say anything is impossible.

As Apple continues to gain a stronghold in the corporate world, you will see hackers move in that direction. I really think they're already doing it, just not as much as Windows.I've seen some odd stuff occur with my Apple system.

Jake, just change passwords, change your network password if you have one for your router and also your wireless password. Thats about all I normally do and I feel my computers are pretty safe.

Mac OSX doesn't have a large enough market share for hackers to spend time developing ways to hack them. Far more efficient to learn how to hack windows since OSX is only on about 8% of all computers. They are however gaining popularity and hackers will begin to migrate but you shouldn't have to worry right now. Just change your passwords routinely, clear browser history and do not for any reason save passwords in your browser or on your computer. You should be fine. I download music, movies etc. routinely and have never once had a problem. Windows on the other hand... constantly.

Recomendations: update to the latest (free) OS, Mavricks 10.9. And check for updates and apply them. Also Sophos (free) Anti-Virus protection is a good bet. And it's all FREE!

I agree, update to the latest version of OS X, or the latest update that your Mac can handle. Another choice for anti-virus protection is ClamXAV. It is free, doesn't constantly ask you to pay, and works very well. You can get it from the Apple App store, or from their Web site. Not the fastest in the world, but you can run it in the background as needed. Unlike, Windows anti-virus software, you don't have to run it all the time. I run it about once a week, especially to check my e-mail for any incoming nasties from Windows users. I also use it on my Ubuntu Linux computer. I have been using it since I bought my first MacBook Pro in 2010.

I have all Macs and have no protection, I do my banking etc on them. Have installed virus protection to check after 5 years of not having any and still no viruses. Thats good enough for me.
