I am definitely no expert on the Amish community, especially behind closed doors, but I have worked around them (as our jobs collide often) for the last almost 30 years. They are of course given the opportunity to leave the community at a certain age.......either to stay, or leave and be shunned. Whether these practices, and anything I have said, are "universal" through out the Amish nationally, I do not know. I'm sure there are subtle differences, or factions, among them......like any way of life. I am definitely no expert on the Amish community, especially behind closed doors, but I have worked around them (as our jobs collide often) for the last almost 30 years. Like I said, good and bad can be found, but you have to admire their steadfastness in a world of constant change.
