All I want for Christmas ...

… Is something useful.

Just wondering what you all would want for Christmas.

Now don't get excited this is not an offer from me in which I fill your Christmas stocking. ;)

I was just thinking now that I have a decent camera and a renewed passion I will probably get a whole lot of photography related gifts from well meaning family. :)

These gifts will be driven by a desire to please and of course a budget - two conflicting criteria if ever there were any (unless of course money isn't a problem). The last thing I would want is a gadget that is useless. I saw a post somewhere about a screw on "wide angle lens" which fits on a kit lens. Price $20.00 value $0 :eek-new:

What reasonably priced Christmas gift would you like to receive from your loved ones (even if they club together and you only get one gift)?

Oh what the hell in for a penny in for a pound: What flipping expensive gift would you really like? :drunk:

Not sure if your profile is complete. If it is, I would probably suggest you need a decent tripod. Something solid and portable. They may need to club together, but a group photo as your first use would more than compensate!

My wife is more willing to give me a "Rolex" or anything that is not "camera" or photography related. She's tired of me buying all these stuff on my signature block.

I'm more willing to cut down on my lenses but I don't know if I can do that. The candidate lenses are: 300mm f4, 16-35mm f4 VRII, and 28mm f1.8G. It doesn't mean that I don't like them, it's just they are less utilize. The dilema is that I will probably regret doing that later on in the future.

I would like the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD but it will be a long time before I can afford it.

I'm going to be taking a road trip to Wisconsin for a week or so at end of month then mid-Oct. going to Smoky Mt. for a week camping and I sure could use it.

Don that is one nice wife you have there if she delivers on that promise.

gqtuazon I have a similar problem. What to buy that will be utilised.

Mike I am afraid I am in the same boat. A bit of a wait until I buy my next toy. :(

reverb - you got me scurrying to go do some research. I wish you wouldn't do that to me. :)

Browncoat - funny how that list seems to come out at this time of year! :devilish:

Seems lenses are the popular gift of choice.

This may sound corny, but I think I'd like to get the kids (and grandkids) to meet here with us on the same day.
for many years now one could make it Saturday but the other could only make it Sunday.
Regardless to say, I love them both dearly along with their spouses and the grandkids (9 down to 3).

Now don't go ruining this thread with the true meaning of Christmas! :). An excellent wish Mike, I hope it works out for you and your family!

I bought my own Christmas gifts early when I upgraded from a D3100 to a D7000. I gifted my D3100 to my sister and her husband along with the 18-55 kit lens. But then I had to have a 18-105. Everybody happy...but wait I didn't have a backup camera. I found a D5000, almost new(1,800 clicks) for $280. Think I'm set. But there is another lens...

useful and not expensive: Memory cards wired or wireless remote battery filters, uv - cp flash bag lcd protector d5100 instruction book or dvd.
Since you did not list any lens i would get the 18-105mm not that expensive around $200 refurbished. 55-300mm kit lens again not that expensive.
Another d600 body so i can use the fx lens i have without switching lens all the time.

My list is simple, 70-200 f2.8 and a teleconverter, nothing major but as mentioned before dreams are cheap. In real life my Christmas gifts came in the form of a new d600, so I need to chill at least till New Years.
